Happy St Patrick's Day

Happy St Patrick's Day, everyone!
A few of us decided to have a pub crawl in Bandiagara, which is a beautiful town in Dogon country. I had shirts made for everyone. They looked like this:

Then my camera battery died so I don't have any more photos. All in all it was a great time!

What is fistula?

My friend, Rabayah, works at a women's center in Mopti. All the women have fistula. According to wikipedia "It is often caused by childbirth when a prolonged labor presses the unborn child tightly against the pelvis, cutting off blood flow to the vesicovaginal wall. The affected tissue may necrotize, leaving a hole." To help make money while they are in the center, they learn to make jewelry. Here is a photo of some of what they make.
In order to help celebrate National Women's Day on March 8th, a few of us helped Rabayah paint the boutique that the women run to sell the jewelry they make. Artie, Katie, Susan and I came out for a morning to paint.

It was a good day and the women were really happy!
